BEN EVANS Ben is the Director of the London Design Festival, which celebrates and promotes London as the creative capital of the world. It is an annual event and involves over 180 partner organisations and has an audience of 350,000. Elsewhere, since 1997 he has been a trustee of Artangel, one of the UK’s leading contemporary arts organisations. He has recently become a governor of the University of the Arts and he was also a trustee of the Roundhouse until 2004.
ES DEVLIN Es Devlin is one of the most exciting and versatile set-designers working in the world today. Originally known for her award-winning design in the rarified world of Opera (from Don Giovanni in Vienna to Salome at the Royal Opera House), she’s now designing sets for the likes of Kanye West’s US tour, Nitin Sawhney at the IMAX Cinema, Wire and Mika. Es has also made films including Rage starring Jude Law, Kate Moss’ turn with Agent Provocateur (Miss X) and Razorlight’s music video, Hostage of Love.
JAKE DYSON Jake studied Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins, graduating in 1994. Since then he has worked in the product design industry, gaining experience in engineering and manufacturing, establishing Jake Dyson Limited in 2002. Jake felt that contemporary lighting – and uplights in particular – had been neglected. After two years of development, he has realised his vision that a light can be versatile as well as beautiful, and the result is Motorlight, the world’s first variable angle uplight.
JAMES PARR In his 17 years as a designer, James’ career has taken him on a number of paths and occasional wrong turns – from designing products to producing and directing films to developing software. For the last 10 years James has been working on a simple, but surprisingly, elusive problem: how to make society more sustainable. He is currently pursuing this question at Innovation consultants IDEO, ranked 5th on Fast Company’s list of the world’s most innovative companies.
