WHERE:Shanghai Sculpture Space JUDGES:![]() DAVID WILLIAMS David Williams founded Asentio Design, Shanghai's first personal experience design studio. Since completing a PhD in Cognitive Psychology, David has held god-like roles in innovation, consumer research and interaction design in a range of companies in Europe and the US including Motorola and Razorfish. Now in Shanghai, David regularly kicks ass in China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam, finding inspiration in the cultural and creative differences between them. Speaking four languages, David believes that cultural interaction is crucial to successful innovation in global markets. ![]() EDDI YIP Eddi Yip founded and runs lifestyle company adFunture Workshop, and is best known for his pioneering designer figures, which transform designers’ 2D creations into 3D forms. Eddi has worked with over 300 designers worldwide in product collaborations and shows. adFunture has hosted exhibitions in all over Asia, North America and Europe (including one at the Victoria and Albert Museum). Eddi also works with clients including PUMA, W+K, Nike, Nokia, and Levis. ![]() JACK CHEN Jack Chen has worked as both a CG generalist and a TD in gaming, animation and films for over eight years. You may know him as the VFX supervisor on the Dragon Ball flick. This Maya wiz and rendering guru now finds himself at Big American Films, which allows him to keep close to his love of VFX while producing original content. ![]() LI JUN Although Li Jun’s passion for fashion and design has taken him as far as Germany and Finland, these days, he’s staying put in Shanghai, where he heads the Department of New Media Art and Design at Donghua University. He has not forgotten his first passion, though, and when his head is not buried in academia, he continues to exhibit his work around town, and his designs continue to win awards in both Asia and Europe. ![]() TODD GILL After graduating from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in industrial design, Todd began his career as art director for Toast in Sydney, working with clients such as Marc Newson, MTV and Idee. Then followed broad design experiences across AsiaPac, through Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and China. In the last six years, Todd has lived between Sydney and Shanghai; and in 2006, he co-founded Container, a design company specializing in boutique packaging design for fashion and cosmetic industries. SHANGHAI TEAM:![]() PANTHEA LEE Panthea enjoys talking to trees, hanging out at 60 Wujiang Lu, and biking around Shanghai's French Concession. She is usually covered in cat hair, which might explain the excessive biking: she's secretly hoping that the wind will, uh, sweep away all that kitty fuzz. ![]() BECK YANG In addition to his 9 to 5 with OgilvyOne, Beck is also very active in Shanghai's art and design scenes. His obsession with anything and everything relating to freestyle design has earned him inclusion in in leading Chinese galleries including Duolun, the Zendai Museum of Modern Art, BizArt and the DDM Warehouse. Creative collaborations include one-offs with eno clothing, tigerbeer and Gibson Guitars. ![]() ECHO CHEN Performances, exhibitions, events, media -- these are Echo's passions, which she tends to through her career as a public relations and marketing guru. She has worked with some of Shanghai's most well-known cultural institutions including the Shanghai Concert Hall, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and Shanghai Majestic Performance. ![]() ELEPHANT XIANG Elephant joined W+K Shanghai in 2008. He is a designer of the NewWebPick design platform and a TOY2R contracted designer. His work has been featured in YOHO, Milk, and NewWebPick, to name a few. Among others, his client list includes Volkswagen, Nike, Nokia, and Peugeot. ![]() H. MONKEY HE Before settling in at Draft FCB, where he plays with cars (Buick, Saab and GM) most of the day, Hmonkey learned his craft as a freelancer, working on campaigns for the likes of Nike, Kappa, Dior and Elle. In 2006, Hmonkey was honoured with an excellence award from China Top Design and, recently, his work was selected for inclusion in the 2010 World Expo poster collection. ![]() STAN XU Stan focuses on interactive design that incorporates his first loves, photography and illustration. For his day job, his clients include Apple and Buick. On the side, Stan exhibits locally in Shanghai, and his work has been featured in magazines such as Art World and 1626. ![]() VICTOR XU After graduating from the Chinese Academy of Art, Victor joined founding team of 61 Creative Studio, where he worked on projects for Bund 18, the Shanghai Auto Museum, and the Animamix exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai. In 2005, he joined MoCA full-time to oversee its Design department. Victor also works as a freelance photographer and graphic designer and has exhibited both in China and internationally. |
