Inspired by Cut&Paste's global Digital Design Tournament—which brings designers from around the world to compete on stage—the Cut&Paste Design Slam returns to Autodesk University for its second year. The fast-paced format tests skill, speed, and stage presence, while the audience witnesses the professional designers and Autodesk executives at work on large-scale projected screens, creating original work in rounds of 20 minutes. Each designer will compete with their favorite weapon among a variety of Autodesk 2010 software tools. With two competitions of fast-paced action on each night, the Cut&Paste Design Slam promises to be a heart-pounding contest of slick computer tricks, quick-witted design, and high-energy showmanship. Buzz Kross, Phil Bernstein, and Carl Bass brought their skills to the table in "Modeling for Bond, James Bond," by fashioning some novel gadgets and even a car park for 007's get-away home. In the "Dangerous Liaisons" Revit competition, Jeffrey McGrew of Because We Can wowed the crowd with his observation deck design as a complement to the Royal Saltworks by Claude Nicolas Ledoux. In the "Extreme Free Form" AutoCAD competition, Rodrigo Ramos brought a fresh look with his skate/bike park. And Henry Goecke brought his skills back to AU by defending his Alias 2010 competition title in the "Solar Flair" by inventing a novel solar lawnmower complete with a full concept board (see below). Each competition winner received an HP Mini 110 Series Netbook and all competitors received a copy of Autodesk Mudbox 2010 and Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 2010.
